R-134a is a single-component HFC refrigerant used for decades in automotive air-conditioning and in many commercial refrigeration and chiller applications. It is non-flammable and non-toxic (A1 safety class) and remains widely needed for servicing the large installed base of vehicles and equipment.

With a GWP of around 1,430, R-134a is being phased down for new equipment under the EU F-Gas Regulation and MAC Directive in favour of R-1234yf, but stays essential for maintenance work.
